June 24 - JERI-ALYNN McGEE
Lecture - History of the COQG Block of the Month
As a great learning experience, Jeri-Alynn has made every block for the Block of the Month since joining the guild, though did not make the quilt of the month. With the knowledge she has gleaned from the experience, Jeri-Alynn will take you on her Block of the Month quilt journey from 1985-2010 with quilt tops and finished quilts. She will clue us in on what each year’s influence was to prompt her end results.
Jeri-Alynn McGee has been a very active COQG member since joining in 1985, to include serving as president 1988-1989.
From the time Jeri-Alynn joined the guild, she has tried to participate in as many of the guild functions as possible, including as a member of the traveling team for the Oklahoma Quilt Heritage Project, which resulted in publishing Oklahoma Heritage Quilts book. This extensive project earned the traveling team COQG lifetime memberships.
Jeri-Alynn has had quilts displayed in the AQS show and various shows across the county, including the AQS calendar and Anita Murphy’s book Reversible Quilts. Her quilts have won numerous ribbons in Oklahoma, California and New Mexico.
Jeri-Alynn started quilting in the mid-50’s, though was hand piecing since a small child under her grandmother’s tutelage, who didn’t know what she was doing, but was just trying to keep Jeri-Alynn busy! Jeri-Alynn has taught quilt classes for well over 20 years to include St. Luke’s and Francis Tuttle Vo-Tech.
~Join in the fun and bring your Block of the Month blocks, tops and quilts to participate with Jeri-Alynn during the program. |

AUGUST 26 – PAULA PLATTER
Lecture - LIFE OF MR. SINGER AND HIS AFFECT ON SEWING/QUILTING
|
Besides bringing a selection of quilts for viewing, Paula will entertain us with a program on the life of Isaac Merritt Singer, a man og questionable reputation who made great improvements to the sewing machine and started the company which bears his name. |
Before becoming an award winning quilter living in Mead, OK, Paula taught mathematics at Southeastern Oklahoma University. She has found that quilting and mathematics have a great deal in common. Both require problem solving and both are exciting. Paula has been designing patterns for 14 years, starting Paula Platter Designs II. Her most recent work is the creation of the STAR GENERATOR® technique for producing stars and mariner's compasses. Several of Paula's quilts have been published in Irena Bluhm's books Start with a Blank Slate and Quilts of a Different Color. |

SEPT 23 - DAVID TAYLOR
Lecture - LIFE OF MR. SINGER AND HIS AFFECT ON SEWING/QUILTING
Two-day Workshop
SEPT 24 & 25 Workshop - PICTORIAL APPLIQUE - $60
|
Pictorial Appliqué - This class is for quilters who have mastered their own appliqué technique. I will demonstrate how to adapt a photograph or drawing into a wall quilt, using hand-appliqué and piecing techniques. A simple subject with a nice detail works best for my method. I will show how to get beautiful details from simple shapes and letting the fabric do the hard work.
~Students are encouraged to contact me by email in advance of the class to discuss their image choices: david@davidtaylorquilts.com. | David Taylor, an acclaimed award winning quilter, teacher, graphic designer an ambassador for HandiQuilter, was born in New Hampshire and currently resides in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he began his journey into the quilting world in 1999.
David's obsession with fabric began at an early age, salvaging tiny scraps from his mother's sewing area trash bin. This began his love and appreciation for fabric, though not a love for quilting. "Who would ever want to cut up their beautiful fabrics into tiny pieces?" he says.
David's quilts, crafted by hand and meticulously quilted on his Bernina 160 home machine, achieve a realistic effect though his fabric choices. Thread 'painting' is the only embellishment added to his work. His threads of choice are variegated cottons by Sulky Blendables, and his preferred batting is Warm and Natural.

EQ6 DESIGNING QUILTS BY COMPUTER
"Ain't Technology Grand?" This program looks at the incredibly powerful quilt designing software EQ6 by the Electric Quilt Co. A PowerPoint lecture explores the many things this software program can do, and the ways it can assist quilters (with little or no computer experience) to design quilt, quilt blocks, explore fabric and setting ideas, and create instructions for making original quilts. A virtual trunk |

COLOR CONFIDENCE – TRUST YOUR HUNCHES”
"I'm just not good with color" is a common refrain heard in guilds and quilt shops. But with a little color confidence any quilter can become a color whiz. This program explores basic color theory from the quilter's perspective and shows how to develop color confidence drawing on your own instincts, intuition, and preferences. The program includes a virtual quilt show & Power Point presentation along with a trunk show of quilts illustrating basic color concepts. It is a fun and interactive program. |
