Denise Stahl - Convergence Quilts

It's easy, magical and exciting making a Convergence Abstract Quilt top in a day. You do not need to be an artist, you just need to be able to sew 1/4" seams and cut with a rotary cutter.

 

Denise will take you step by step to make a Ricky Tims' Convergence Quilt using his special technique. Two or more fabrics will be cut into strips, sewn together, then cut and pieced again. It may look complex but it is fun and easy to make. Turn 4 Fat Quarters into an amazing modern art wall-hanging quilt.
 

You will learn:

•         The benefit of selecting contrasting colored fabrics.

•         How to cut, swap and sew the strips.

Supplies:

Sewing machine with ¼ inch foot, 6 x 24 (approximately) ruler, 45 mm rotary cutter, rotary mat, typical sewing supplies, 4 Fat quarters (large print, small print, tone on tone) that coordinate well together, coordinating thread, pins. 

It’s true! Students will create a baby quilt from start to finish during this workshop! Workshop includes hands-on instruction for machine binding.

 

Supply List:

Workshop participants will need:

1 1/4 yards backing fabric

1 1/4 yards background fabric

(42) 2 1/2" squares (can bring up to 60 if desired)

1/2 yard fabric cut into 2 1/2" strips, sewed end to end, and pressed in half for binding

Crib size or 45" x 45" batting

Basting spray or basting pins

Ruler

Marking tool (Hera marker, air erasable pen, etc)

Glue stick

Sewing machine with walking foot

Thread

Learn Laura Heine's techniques from certified instructor Vonda Blando to successfully create, secure, and quilt your own work of art! Collage quilts are all about using fabric, patterns, motifs, and values to create your design.

This class will start with a kit, but you can add your own personal touches from your stash if you like! You will learn the Laura Heine collage quilting process and complete your design layout by the end of class.  Suggestions on quilting and finishing will be shared in the class.
